Why Buy An Eco-Friendly Gift?

The impact of our actions on the environment is becoming increasingly evident, it’s crucial to consider the choices we make, even when it comes to gift-giving. At Elizabeth & Ernest, we believe that every gift should not only bring joy to the recipient but also contribute positively to the planet. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to offer a range of eco-friendly gifts that are sustainable, ethical, and crafted with care.

Our journey towards eco-conscious gifting began with a simple realisation: traditional gift options often come with a hefty environmental cost. Plastic packaging, harmful chemicals, and non-biodegradable materials dominate the market, leaving eco-conscious consumers with limited options. Fuelled by our passion for both creativity and sustainability, we set out to change that.

From the very beginning, we've prioritised natural, sustainable, and ethically made products. Our founder, Lucy, has always had a knack for creating thoughtful gifts, and in 2017, she took it a step further by embracing eco-friendly practices. We knew that if we couldn’t find sustainable and plastic-free gifts on the market, we would create them ourselves.

At Elizabeth & Ernest, every aspect of our products is carefully considered to minimize our environmental footprint. We replace palm oil with natural substitutes like shea butter and coconut oil, ensuring that our ingredients are not only eco-friendly but also gentle on the skin. What’s more, we hand-make our products right here in Devon, supporting the local economy and reducing carbon emissions associated with long-distance shipping.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to every detail, from our packaging to our scents. Our candles are crafted from natural soy wax, free from harmful paraffin, while our scents are created using a delicate balance of essential oils, with no synthetic fragrances in sight. We believe that every component should be circular, meaning it can be reused, recycled, or composted, minimising waste, and maximizing sustainability.

But our dedication to eco-friendly practices doesn’t stop there. We offer a convenient service that allows customers to send gifts directly to recipients, reducing carbon miles and minimising transportation-related emissions. We also strive for transparency, educating our customers on how to live an eco-friendly life through our social media channels.

When it comes to packaging, we’ve thought of everything. Our external packaging is made from paper, which can be shredded and composted or recycled with household paper. Cotton wool ties can be repurposed into bookmarks, gift ties, or even friendship bracelets, reducing waste and adding a personal touch to your gifts.

Our tissue paper, gift tags, and boxes are all made from recyclable materials, and we encourage our customers to reuse or repurpose them wherever possible. Even our sweet bags are made from home compostable cellulose, ensuring that every part of your gift can be disposed of responsibly.

When your gift has been enjoyed, we provide clear instructions on how to recycle or dispose of each component. From candle jars and tealights to shredded cardboard and paper, we’ve made it easy for you to minimise your environmental impact and keep waste out of landfills and oceans.

At Elizabeth & Ernest, we believe that eco-friendly gifting isn’t just about the gift itself—it’s about the impact we have on the planet and future generations. By choosing our sustainable, ethically made products, you’re not only giving a thoughtful gift but also making a positive difference in the world. Join us in our mission to create a more sustainable future, one eco-friendly gift at a time.
